Prior to the release of DC's Black Adam, Deadline announced that Warner Brothers had moved the release of Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the superhero film Aquaman, to Christmas 2023. The movie's original release date had been moved from December 21, 2022 to March 17, 2023. Originally scheduled to come on Aquaman 2's original December 2022 release date, Shazam: Fury of The Gods now will take the March release date.

Delays have affected almost every studio, specifically for VFX-intensive productions like science fiction and action films. In a February interview with Collider, franchise villain Patrick Wilson discussed the never-before-seen VFX technologies used in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. In the first movie, Jason Momoa assumed the role of Arthur Curry, the title character, as he discovered his actual ancestry as the king of Atlantis. His climb to the throne was a difficult one because he had to ward off both an evil half-brother who thought the realm was his, and a highly skilled pirate turned supervillain who was seeking justice for the death of his father.

Along with the other Justice League members, Aquaman just made an appearance at the end of James Gunn's Peacemaker series' Season 1 finale. It's unclear how the next movies will relate given that Black Adam brings the Justice Society, a different take on the Justice League. In comic books, Shazam! and Black Adam! Billy Baston are well-known rivals, so it's possible that the Justice Society and the Justice League will clash in the future of the DC Ultimate Universe.

Along with Momoa and Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Dolph Lundgren also appear in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. James Wan, a master of the horror films and Aquaman director, will return to lead the sequel from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson McGoldrick. Along with franchise stars Wilson and Vera Farmiga, the pair appeared to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It from the previous year. Although Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom's filming was completed in January, there is still no available information about when a trailer for the impending sequel would be released. You may get a thorough look at Aquaman and Black Manta's outfits in the future movie thanks to the recent display of the costumes from Aquaman 2 at a license convention.
