Some fans were perplexed when Sony announced yesterday that a new Karate Kid movie will be released in 2024, making reference to it as "the return of the original Karate Kid franchise." Netflix's Cobra Kai, which stars many of the original cast members, including Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) and William Zabka, is currently doing quite well (Johnny Lawrence). The show's co-creator, Jon Hurwitz, has just clarified that the new film has nothing to do with Cobra Kai, despite Macchio's recent hints of a "Karate Kid Film Franchise." The series just launched its fifth season.
